How does the university obtain my address?

The addresses of all graduates are collected at the end of their studies and stored electronically at the university in accordance with the statutes on the collection and processing of personal data. These addresses are compiled solely for the purpose of conducting the graduate survey. Since some addresses are not always up-to-date one year after graduation, the list is updated, if necessary, with the help of the Einwohnermeldeämter (local registration offices), the postal offices and the internet.

What is the purpose of the access code?

Each graduate is assigned a randomly generated access code. This code allows you to participate in the online survey (while keeping so-called “third-party fillers” or “bots” out). Additionally, the access code allows the university to find out who has already replied to the survey by checking the used access codes. This ensures that these graduates are not asked for their participation again (otherwise, graduates will be contacted up to four times and asked to participate in the survey).

Privacy policy:

The responses will only be used for statistical purposes and as part of quality management at the University of Konstanz. Due to the participation of the University of Konstanz in the cooperation project "Baden-Württemberg Graduate Study", the data collected by the University of Konstanz and the other state universities are used for the generation of an anonymised overall data set. The overall data set is created by an service provider (currently Konvena UG, Blarerstraße 56, 78462 Konstanz). Your participation is voluntary. When you pause the survey and save your entries, but do not return to complete the questionnaire later on, the saved entries will be incorporated in the data analysis. The Quality Management Department will process your answers without any connection to your person. Your contact details will not be saved together with your answers. Therefore, the answers you provide cannot be associated with your person based on your contact information. In isolated cases, it is theoretically possible to retrospectively draw conclusions on your person through the combination of individual answers. Please be assured that the University of Konstanz will not make use of this possibility. In accordance with §§ 15f General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to request information from the University of Konstanz about any data it stores that is related to your person and/or to have incorrect data corrected. You also have the right to demand that your data be deleted or that the processing and use thereof be restricted (§§ 17f GDPR), as well as to object to the processing and use of your data (§ 21 GDPR). To better understand and exercise your rights, please contact our data protection officer by emailing: datenschutzbeauftragter@uni-konstanz.de You also have the right to file a complaint with the regulating authority if you believe that the processing and use of your personal data is in violation of the law. The responsible contact person at the regulating authority is the Landesbeauftragter für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Baden-Württemberg (state commissioner for data protection and the freedom of information in Baden-Württemberg) (https://www.baden-wuerttemberg.datenschutz.de).

The results of the survey will be evaluated from a statistical point of view only. We will not make individual evaluations, but only group-related evaluations (e.g. women-men, special groups), so no conclusions can be drawn on your personal answer pattern. The published results are anonymous. Feedback on open questions (e.g. "What did you not like about your studies / doctorate at the University of Konstanz?") will be passed on unchanged (except names) to members of the Rectorate and / or responsible departments (e.g. International Office, Examination Office, head of department), if necessary.  If you do not want to answer a question, you can simply skip it.

Your contact information will be deleted from the records kept by Quality Management after the results have been evaluated. The survey results will be deleted after 5 years.

Further legal information can be found in the Bundes- and Landesdatenschutzgesetz (BDSG, LSDG data protection acts) as well as in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the university's Evaluationssatzung für Studium, Lehre und Weiterbildung (evaluation statutes for study, teaching and continuing education).
