Data protection

Thank you for the willingness to participate in our survey! By doing so, you help us to maintain and strengthen the quality of study and teaching at the University of Konstanz. We would like to take a moment to inform you about how we use your data during our surveys:

  • Your participation in the survey is voluntary.
  • If you do not want to answer certain questions, you may simply skip them.
  • The survey data are used only by Quality Management, for internal and external reporting obligations and in certain cases for scientific purposes.
  • We will process your answers without any connection to your person. Your contact details will not be saved together with your answers. Therefore, the answers you provide cannot be associated with your person based on your email-address. In isolated cases, it is theoretically possible to retrospectively draw conclusions on your person through the combination of individual answers. Please be assured that the University of Konstanz will not make use of this possibility.
  • In accordance with §§ 15f General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to request information from the University of Konstanz about any data it stores that is related to your person and/or to have incorrect data corrected. You also have the right to demand that your data be deleted or that the processing and use thereof be restricted (§§ 17f GDPR), as well as to object to the processing and use of your data (§ 21 GDPR).
  • To better understand and exercise your rights, please contact our data protection officer (Article 37 EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)) by emailing: datenschutzbeauftragter@uni-konstanz.de
  • You also have the right to file a complaint with the regulating authority if you believe that the processing and use of your personal data is in violation of the law. The responsible contact person at the regulating authority is the Landesbeauftragter für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Baden-Württemberg (state commissioner for data protection and the freedom of information in Baden-Württemberg) (https://www.baden-wuerttemberg.datenschutz.de).
  • When you pause the survey and save your entries, but do not return to complete the questionnaire later on, the saved entries will be incorporated in the data analysis.
  • The results of the survey will be evaluated for statistical purposes only. Individual data evaluations will not be carried out. Only group-related evaluations (e.g. women/men, special groups) will be processed, which precludes any analysis of your personal answer pattern. The published results are anonymous.
  • Feedback on open questions (e.g. "What did you not like about your studies / doctorate at the University of Konstanz?") will be passed on unchanged (except names) to members of the Rectorate and / or responsible departments (e.g. International Office, Examination Office, head of department) if necessary.
  • Your email address will be deleted from the records kept by Quality Management after the results have been evaluated. The survey results will be deleted after 10 years.
  •  Further legal information can be found in the Bundes- and Landesdatenschutzgesetz (BDSG, LSDG data protection acts) as well as in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the university's Evaluationssatzung für Studium, Lehre und Weiterbildung (evaluation statutes for study, teaching and continuing education).
