The Zukunftskolleg has just opened its 18th call for applications for five Postdoctoral Fellowships.

In the Assembly of Members on 4 July, the fellows reelected Noelia Martinez Doallo (Postdoctoral Fellow / Dept. of Law), and elected Svetlana Boycheva Woltering (Research Fellow / Dept. of Biology) as well as Philipp di Dio (Research Fellow / Dept. of Mathematics and Statistics) to serve as new members in the Executive Committee.

We congratulate Gisela Kopp (Research Fellow / Biology) – also member of the Center for the Advanced Study of Collective Behaviour and the Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior at the University of Konstanz - who was elected as the new chair of Die Junge Akademie.

We congratulate Jeff Kochan (Associated Fellow / Philosophy) who has been appointed a Visiting Research Fellow by the University of Western Australia from August to September 2023.

Tobias Sutter is one of our new Research Fellows from the 16th call for applications for fellowships. He has started his fellowship in June and is affiliated with the Department of Computer and Information Science.

We congratulate Senior Fellow Babu Thaliath on receiving the 2023 KAAD-Stiftung Peter Hünermann Prize.

On 9 May, the University of Konstanz, as a member of three European University Networks – ERUA, Yerun, EUniWell -, has celebrated Europe Day together with its international partners. Highlight of the event was a live online-session with the Ukrainian president Wolodymyr Selenskyj as very special guest.

We congratulate Angelo di Bernardo who has started a tenured Associate Professorship in Condensed Matter Physics at the University of Salerno, Italy, on 1 May 2023.

Today, Die Junge Akademie’s childrens book “Young Scientists” has been published by Hanser-Verlag. In the publication, biologist Gisela Kopp - member of the Zukunftskolleg, Centre for the Advanced Study of Collective Behaviour (CASCB) and Max-Planck-Institute (MPI) at the University of Konstanz - reveals how she researches animals even without meeting them in person.

We welcome our new Senior Fellow Philip Welch at the Zukunftskolleg. He was invited by Research Fellow Carolin Antos-Kuby and will stay in Konstanz until the end of June.

We congratulate Yeliena Kovalska (Visiting Fellow / History and Sociology), who has been awarded a MSCA4 (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions) Ukraine Fellowship by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

We congratulate Research Fellow Anna Stöckl from the Department of Biology who has been appointed as Junior Professor at the University of Konstanz.

Our fellow from the department of Biology is honoured for her publication on a state of jumping spiders that is similar to REM sleep.

In the latest Constructive Advanced Thinking (CAT) call - deadline for applications was 15 October 2022 -, 12 applications were submitted, out of which the following four innovative, young ideas have now been selected:

Daniel Skibra is one of our new Postdoctoral Fellows from the 17th call for applications for fellowships. He has started his fellowship in March and is affiliated with the Department of Philosophy.

We congratulate María Cruz Berrocal (Associated Fellow / History and Sociology) who has accepted a permanent research position at the Incipit (Instituto de Ciencias del Patrimonio) of the CSIC (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas), in Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

Research Fellow Gisela Kopp (Dept. of Biology / Affiliate member of the CASCB), has received a guest professorship in the Department of Anthropology at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, USA.

For the third time, the Hector Fellow Academy has presented the Hector Research Career Development (RCD) Award. At the end of January, the jury of experts selected three young scientists whose research careers the Hector Fellow Academy now supports. Among them is Research Fellow Anna Stöckl from the Department of Biology.

We congratulate Valeria Vegh Weis (Research Fellow / Law) who was accepted as a member of the working group "Human Rights and International Relations" coordinated by Prof. Dr. Achilles Skordas from the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law.

We congratulate Raghavendra Gadagkar - Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Zukunftskolleg - who has been elected as Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

We congratulate Ariane Bertogg whose Substitute Professorship at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich (LMU) has been extended for another semester.

Congratulations to Susanne Wißhak (former Associated Fellow / Economics) for receiving a junior professorship at the new Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU).

At the beginning of December, four of our recent ZUKOnnect and Herz Fellows attended the ERUA ECR Workshop on "Interdisciplinary Research and Engaging the Non-academic" at the University of Roskilde.

Congratulations to Associated Fellow Jennifer Randerath (former Research Fellow / Psychology) and her research group who secured funding for their post-covid project “Multidimensional test concept for Fatigue Symptomatology in Long-COVID".

The Waseda Institute for Advanced Study (WIAS) of Waseda University is organising the WIAS 15th Anniversary Symposium "Well-being in the time of uncertainty" together with the Zukunftskolleg and the Institute for Advanced Research of Nagoya University.

Congratulations to Postdoctoral Fellow Daniela Rößler: National Geographic named her research one of the "22 most amazing discoveries of 2022".

This year's Manfred Ulmer Fellowship is awarded to ZUKOnnect Fellow Angelo Javier Neira Albornoz from the Department of Computer and Information Science tonight at the Regional Science Forum in Donaueschingen.
