3. Purpose and legal basis for data processing

The data submitted via the registration form is processed for the purpose of matching students as part of the Buddy Programme. Without this data, the matching process can not be carried out. Individuals who are not immediately matched will still continue to be considered in the ongoing matching process. 

Once the matching process has been completed, respective students may be contacted for the purpose of providing information about Buddy Programme related events or announcing the next programme registration period.

Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a of the GDPR (consent).

5. Recipients

  • The information required for registration and matching is only made available to International Office staff members.
  • Transferring data to third parties (third parties are also other students): When a student is successfully matched, International Office staff members will forward the student’s name, nationality, gender and email address to the respective buddy partner. The Buddy Team will not inform other persons about the respective matching result.

6. Storage duration

Personal data will be deleted 24 months after the student has ceased to participate in the Buddy Programme.

Your rights

  • In accordance with Article 15 GDPR, you have the right to request information from the University of Konstanz about any data it stores related to your person and/or to have incorrect data corrected as per Article 16 GDPR.
  • You also have the right to demand that your data be deleted (Article 17 GDPR) or that the processing and use thereof be restricted (Article 18 GDPR), as well as to object to the processing and use of your data (Article 21 GDPR).
  • You have the right to withdraw your consent to the processing of data at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing since consent was provided before its withdrawal (Article 13 GDPR).

  •  You also have the right to file a complaint with the regulating authority if you believe that the processing and use of your personal data is in violation of the law (Art. 77 GDPR).
