Public Talk: "Whose child are you?" - Past, present and future"

The Zukunftskolleg invited everyone to the public talk led by Tswi Herschel and his daughter Natali Herschel.

We invited you to the witness talk with Tswi Herschel and his daughter Natali Herschel on

Wednesday, 22 June 2022, from 15.15 until 17.15 in A 701 at the University of Konstanz.

Title of the talk was: "Whose child are you?" - Past, present and future".

Tswi Herschel was born into a Jewish family in the Netherlands in December 1942. After the young family is deported to the Amsterdam ghetto in spring 1943, the parents manage to smuggle the infant out of the ghetto. A family active in the resistance takes Tswi in. After the war, he is taken by his grandmother from his foster family and brought up Jewish. In 1986, Tswi Herschel immigrates to Israel with his family. His story of survival is so special because he only learned his true identity and the history of his family late and little by little. It was not until he was 21 that he received all the remaining documents of his murdered parents. Among them was a unique life calendar that his father had drawn for him.
Tswi Herschel's testimony will be supplemented by a contribution from his daughter Natali, who will describe the impact of the Shoah on the generation of children and grandchildren of the survivors.

The event was organised by the Initiative Stolpersteine für Konstanz - Gegen Vergessen und Intoleranz, in cooperation with BiSE and Zukunftskolleg.
