Senior Fellow Mark Dykman at the Zukunftskolleg

We welcome Mark Dykman to the Zukunftskolleg. He was invited as Senior Fellow by Gianluca Rastelli (Research Fellow / Dept.of Physics). Mark Dykman is a Professor in Condensed Matter Physics at the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Michigan State University, USA. Gianluca decribes him as “one of the most outstanding theorists in the field of quantum condensed matter physics.”

Mark Dykman has realized several fundamental contributions in many topics of condensed matter physics, in particular in nonlinear classical and quantum systems and in statistical physics far from thermal equilibrium. “In the years 1970 and 1980, he was one of the pioneers in the theoretical study of nonlinear dynamics of classical resonators and two-dimensional electron gas”, explains Gianluca Rastelli. “His works on fluctuating quantum and classical nonlinear oscillators have found many applications in the mesoscopic vibrational systems, including nanomechanical systems and quantum cavity systems. His seminal works are nowadays theoretical milestones in our understanding of nanomechanical systems and optomechanical systems.”

Mark Dykman will be in Konstanz until 20 June. His stay at the university and the Zukunftskolleg membership are a great opportunity for the entire Department of Physics to establish scientific discussions and future collaborations, and also for the other Zukunftskolleg Fellows of the department.
