Academic giftedness

Until summer semester 2012

Students with academic giftedness were exempted from tuition fees, as long as they were able to confirm the preconditions in the Begabtenbefreiungssatzung (statute on the exemption of academically gifted students) of the University of Konstanz. These include:

  • Students and applicants who are being financially supported by one of the "Begabtenförderungswerke" (organisations promoting young talent). Students, upon official request, were exempted from paying tuition fees for the duration of funding support from one of these foundations. Scholarship holders supported by other foundations, who were awarded financial support based on strong academic achievements and giftedness, were also able to be exempted in individual cases.
  • International students who received a scholarship to study in Germany because of their giftedness and strong academic achievements. In addition to the aforementioned foundations, e. g. the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is also acknowledged supporters of gifted students. Students, upon official request, were exempted from paying tuition fees for the duration of funding support from one of these foundations.
  • Top student athletes that joined the “Kooperationsvereinbarung zur Förderung des Spitzensports” (cooperation agreement for supporting top-class sports) at the University of Konstanz and belonged to a national A, B, or C-squad of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) or a German first-league or comparable team.

Students, upon official request, were exempted from paying tuition fees for the duration of their affiliation to the identified team or group.

You can find further information through University Sports at the University of Konstanz (room G206).
  • First-year students who were enrolled in an undergraduate study programme at the University of Konstanz with a 1.0 higher education entrance qualification grade. This also applied to international students after their grade was converted into the German grading standard.

They received exemptions for the first two study semesters.

The university acknowledged and applied the exemption preconditions without the student having to submit an application.
  • First-year students who received a higher education entrance qualification grade point average better than 1.5 via a school or class for gifted pupils.

They were exempted from paying tuition fees for the first two study semesters.
  • First-year students that successfully completed a minimum of two undergraduate study programme semesters during the Schülerstudium (university study while still in school) according to § 64 para. 2 LHG (state law on higher education). These semesters had to be completed with coursework or academic performance assessments with a grade of “very good” (<1.5).

They were exempted from paying tuition fees for the first two study semesters.
