Independence in research

As an advanced post-doc, you will have opted for one of the many paths open to you at this stage of your career: You are the head of a junior research group, a research fellow at the Zukunftskolleg, a junior professor or a junior lecturer. Or perhaps you are currently working on your “Habilitation” (post-doctoral qualification) project or acquiring comparable qualifications whilst being employed as an academic staff member at one of our chairs.

You already have gathered experience in a number of academic areas. At this stage of your career you will need to press ahead with your Habilitation or any equivalent qualifications and complete them. In addition, you might assume your first leadership responsibilities, successfully secure external funding and consolidate your teaching experience.

Soon, you will apply for a lifetime professorship and work towards enlarging your academic network and increasing your visibility within the scientific community.

You can apply for “Independent Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Konstanz” status in line with the University of Konstanz’s Code of Practice for Academics between Doctoral Studies and Professorship. Junior researchers with a doctoral degree and the proven desire to carry out independent research, aiming at an academic career, may submit their funding application to the Young Scholar Fund.

Due to the variety of tasks that you will need to perform, good time management skills and an adequate work / life balance are essential.
