Changing personal status

You must inform the Student-Service-Centre (SSZ) immediately and without being asked about any changes in your personal status (disclosure requirement: § 8 Hochschul-Datenschutzverordnung (university data protection regulation)).

Possible changes regarding your personal status or changes to personal information include:

  • Changing address
  • Changing health insurance provider
  • Changing name
  • Changing nationality
  • Changing elective department

Changing address

There are three options for changing your contact information:

Changing health insurance provider

If you change your health insurance provider during your studies, please submit a certificate of your new insurance coverage to the SSZ as soon as possible. This certificate should include the standard company number of your new health insurance and your personal health insurance number.

Please note that you have to submit this certificate to the SSZ within 14 days after your membership at the previous health insurance company ends. Only then is your change effective. Otherwise, your previous health insurance can refuse the cancellation and still charge contributions (§ 175 Fünftes Buch Sozialgesetzbuch (Volume V of the Social Insurance Code).

If you do not fulfil this requirement, then the university will not enrol or re-register you (§ 254 Fünftes Buch Sozialgesetzbuch (Volume V of the Social Insurance Code)).

Changing your personal information

Your name and nationality can only be changed upon request. Additionally, the change request must be submitted to the SSZ along with official documents or certificates for verification purposes.

Changing the department where you vote

Your student data sheet states which department you are eligible to vote or stand for election in when representatives to the university’s bodies are elected. If you would like to change the department where you vote, please contact the Student-Service-Centre (SSZ). You will need to be studying a subject taught in the corresponding department (major, minor or interdisciplinary subject). International students who are only completing part of their studies at the University of Konstanz (visiting or exchange programme students) are not eligible to vote or stand for election.
