Changing personal status

Please inform the Student Service Centre (SSZ) immediately and without being asked about any changes in your personal status (disclosure requirement: § 8 Hochschul-Datenschutzverordnung – university data protection regulation).

These typical changes include, for example:

  • Address
  • Health insurance provider
  • Name
  • Nationality
  • Elective department

Change of address

There are three options for changing your contact information:

Change of student health insurance

If you change your student health insurance during your studies, please submit a certificate of your new health insurance coverage to the SSZ as soon as possible. This certificate should include the standard company number of your new health insurance and your personal health insurance number.

Please note that you have to submit this certificate to the SSZ within 14 days after your membership at the previous health insurance company ends. Only then is your change effective. Otherwise, your previous health insurance can refuse the cancellation and still charge contributions (§ 175 para. 3 Fünftes Buch Sozialgesetzbuch (Volume V of the Social Insurance Code)).

If you do not fulfil this requirement, then the university will not enrol or re-register you (§ 254 Fünftes Buch Sozialgesetzbuch (Volume V of the Social Insurance Code)).

Changing your personal information

All changes to your first name and/or surname, your nationality(ies) or any necessary corrections to your other master data (e.g. date, place and country of birth) can only be made at the SSZ upon request and always by submitting suitable evidence. This includes official photo IDs or court decisions.

In addition, you can also report to the SSZ a change in your sex affiliation determined by a family court in accordance with the Transsexual Act (TSG). For this purpose, please submit to us either the final decision of the family court or, as provisional evidence, your application under the TSG, which has already been submitted to the family court and confirmed accordingly.

Important note:

In your own interest, please make sure that the personal data you enter centrally in ZEuS is correct and complete!

This applies in particular to the correct spelling and completeness of your first or last name, the date of birth as well as the place and country of birth. This is all the more important if you have several first or last names or an additional name (e. g. "van"). It is best if we always have the spelling on file which also appears on your official identity card and/or passport. If, for example, you have several first names and you did not originally enter them in ZEuS or did not enter them completely, it is possible that they may later be missing in your final examination documents. However, some employers (e. g. in the Anglo-American region) insist on the same spelling or completeness.

In addition, a later correction or amendment of final and already issued examination documents is a second copy for which a fee of 15 Euro per document will be charged (§ 3 Verwaltungsgebührensatzung (University of Konstanz administrative fees regulation)).

Changing the department where you vote

Your student data sheet states which department you are eligible to vote or stand for election in when representatives to the university’s bodies are elected. If you would like to change the department where you vote, please contact the Student Service Centre (SSZ). You will need to be studying a subject taught in the corresponding department (major, minor or interdisciplinary subject). International students who are only completing part of their studies at the University of Konstanz (visiting or exchange programme students) are not eligible to vote or stand for election.
