Child benefit and parental leave allowance

All parents of children from 0-18 years of age can apply for child benefit. In some circumstances, the child benefit is available beyond the age of 18.

You can apply for child benefit as long as you live and pay taxes in Germany. In certain cases, child benefit can also be paid for children living in the EU, EEA, Switzerland or other participating countries.

You cannot apply for child benefit if you have the specific residence permit for studies, language courses, school exchanges covered in §16 of the AufenthG (residence act) as well as certain other kinds of residence permits.

For the first and second child, the child benefit is 204 euros per child. The third child receives 210 euros and the fourth and subsequent children receive 235 euros each.

In certain cases you can also apply to receive Elterngeld (an monetary allowance for parental leave). Please contact us to see if you qualify.
