Financial support
The University of Konstanz Society provides financial support to outstanding university projects that benefit the entire region.
As a registered charity, the University of Konstanz Society (UGK) supports the university in various areas:
- research and teaching,
- university institutions,
- continued education and training programmes,
- international exchange among researchers and students,
- relations with the city of Konstanz and the international Lake Constance region,
- students and junior researchers.
In short, the University of Konstanz Society provides support whenever and wherever the university itself cannot. Over the last decades, the UGK was able to support a large number of outstanding projects. Read on to learn more about some of them.

Studium Generale
The lectures examine a current topic of interest through the lens of the natural sciences, culture, economics and society. In this public lecture series, experts from various fields introduce new research results and talk about the state of the research in their fields.
The Studium Generale lecture series, which takes place every winter semester, is financed by the University of Konstanz Society.
New library reading room
The University of Konstanz Society has gifted a new reading room to the University of Konstanz library, which would not have been built as part of the regular renovation works.
Free canteen meals
Each semester, the University of Konstanz Society sponsors free canteen meals for students in need, providing them with access to a balanced diet.
Annual meeting of the German Linguistic Society
The annual meeting of the German Linguistic Society is the largest linguistics conference taking place at regular intervals. In 2016, it was organised by Professor Nicole Dehé and held at the University of Konstanz. The theme of the conference was “Sprachkonzil: Theorie und Experiment” (language council: theory and experiment).
The University of Konstanz Society made sure that students in particular could attend.
Sign language app “Max&Eni”
With help from the University of Konstanz Society, the university’s Lehrmedien-Werkstatt (research tools lab) developed an app to help users learn sign language-based communication. This app is especially geared towards the needs of mentally impaired children and teenagers.
Exhibition “Ostdeutschland im Blick von Evelyn Richter und Werner LIeberknecht” (East Germany in the eyes of Evelyn Richter and Werner Lieberknecht)
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the German reunification on 3 October 2015 the University of Konstanz Society supported the photo exhibition “Ostdeutschland im Blick von Evelyn Richter und Werner Lieberknecht - Fotografien von 1949 bis 2015”, curated by Professor Stiegler and the “Fotografie am Bodensee” project group.
German-Columbian student excursion to Berlin
Celebrating their institutional partnership, the University of Konstanz and the Universidad Santo Tomás in Bogotá held a joint seminar on the relationship between industry and the state, one part of which took place in Bogotá, the other in Berlin. The University of Konstanz Society provided financial support to enable poorer students to take part in the excursion, too.
