"Freedoms for creativity"

Release from academic self-administration duties and flexible reduction of teaching load available to professors and junior professors at the University of Konstanz. Deadlines: 30.04. and 30.10.

The “Freedoms for Creativity” programme funded in the framework of the Excellence Strategy offers exceptional researchers the chance to reduce their administrative duties and teaching load. This will allow them to focus on research projects with university-wide appeal.

The following individuals are eligible to apply:

  1. Professors at the University of Konstanz.
  2. Junior professors at the University of Konstanz with a teaching load of more than six course hours per week (SWS) or who have a positive interim evaluation, combined with a fellowship at one of the Clusters or the Zukunftskolleg.

The programme gives professors a (partial) release from their duties for the summer or winter semester (generally for one semester). A substitute (from the University of Konstanz or another university) must be available in order for a researcher to take part in the programme. The substitute must have a habilitation (postdoctoral qualification) or an equivalent qualification. He/she can receive a salary equivalent to the W2 level.

The programme gives junior professors the opportunity to reduce their teaching load, generally for one semester, in combination with a fellowship at one of the Clusters or the Zukunftskolleg. The substitute can be paid at the level of the EG 13 TV-L salary bracket, as long as he/she fulfils the requirements.

Applications can be submitted to the corresponding faculty twice per year. Please use the application form. The application deadline for the summer semester is 30.10. of the previous year. For the winter semester the deadline is 30.04. of the same year. Please note that your department must approve the application first. If your application is then approved by your faculty, it will be decided on (along with the substitute position) in a meeting of the Rectorate. The respective meetings will usually take place in December (for the summer semester) and June (for the winter semester).
