Financial accounting

Book keeping keeps chronological, systematic and comprehensive records of all financially relevant university transactions, documenting them in the university’s book keeping system. Financially relevant transactions are, for instance, resource allocations, requests and orders from businesses, recruitment of staff, received invoices, incoming external or state funds etc.

One important responsibility of the Division of Financial Affairs is auditing. This means that book keeping checks if financially relevant transactions conform to budgetary restrictions before booking them.

Book keeping thus creates the basis for all financial transactions (all incoming and outgoing payments) of the university. It also supplies the basis for planning, preparing and implementing the university budget and finances, and settles outstanding payments with the state and external funding bodies. The records kept by book keeping are also fed into the cost accounting systems and into the decentralised financial information system QIS .

Book keeping is further responsible for keeping track of stock withdrawals and workshop services (glassware, chemicals, warehouse etc.), billing and clearing phone expenses as well as invoicing third parties for using university services (use of rooms, reimbursement of costs etc.).

If you have any questions about book keeping, the unit’s responsibilities and the services it provides, please contact Ms Wißkirchen (director) and her team.
