Face Touch and Intimacy in Post-Migrant Families

In our analyses, we are interested in social, but also in cultural dimensions of touch. We observe how Kurdish-German family members frequently touch each other's faces, both in affective and antagonistic ways. The face of the other appears to be more available for touch, more of a touchable object and body part, than characteristic for “mainstream German” families. Through reciprocal touch of their faces, family members accomplish and sustain lived intimacy. Our contribution is based on the research project "Everyday Life in Post-Migrant Families in Germany", which accompanies the everyday life of post-migrant families video-ethnographically in order to render the culturally plural family life in Germany observable. We investigate how intimacy, emotion, socialization, co-operation, cohesion, conflicts and solidarity are lived by the family members in their interactions.

Apache helicopter close air support mission (Luftungerstützungmission eines Kampfhubschraubers)

The data consists of two short excerpts from the recording of a ~2h helicopter close air support mission during the US led Iraq intervention which began in 2003. During the mission there are several instances of air-to-ground shooting. I wish to look at a very early and a later instance of firing by the helicopter crew and hereby compare how (or if) the communication accompanying the shooting changes over the course of time.
