From student to student

As a writing tutor, you help others and simultaneously further your own writing competence

Working with and learning from others is an important part of developing your writing skills. This is why student tutors are key to our work at the writing centre. They support us in holding events and developing new exercises and worksheets, and they contribute their ideas and experience to our work. And, most importantly: they offer the writing tutoring service  - one on one support for all student writing projects.

Department tutors often find that dealing with writing is an important part of their work. We are happy to share our expertise and work with them.

We particularly welcome teaching degree students as they have insight into more than one department, which is a valuable resource for interdisciplinary writing support. And our tutors find that the intensive engagement with matters of writing and the experience they gain through tutoring are also valuable assets in preparing future teachers for their work.

We explicitly welcome applicatioins from multilingual students. While our regular tutor training course, our weekly team meetings and most of our tutoring sessions are held in German, we have also found creative ways to integrate students who are not (yet) fluent in German.

We are looking for students:

  • who would like to learn more about writing and tutoring
  • who are willing to reflect on their own writing practice
  • who are also interested in theories and models of writing
  • who would like to help other students - by listening, by asking questions and by reflecting on the writing process.

We offer:

  • training as a peer tutor
  • an exchange of ideas amongst colleagues and further professional development in our weekly staff meetings
  • the opportunity to contribute your own ideas and experience to the future work of the writing centre
  • work in an interdisciplinary, vibrant team in which diversity is understood as a central resource
  • employment on a student assistant contract

All those who would like to work with us need to participate in the course  "Schreiben - Theorie, Praxis und Beratung" (see ZEuS) or have undergone comparable training.
