Committee bonus for female postdoctoral researchers

Call for applications

The University of Konstanz aims at a gender balance for decision-making bodies and functional offices. However, since women are still underrepresented in many departments, this requirement creates a tension. This is because female researchers have to take on more committee work than they can proportionately ensure based on their basic population. Therefore, a reward model has been defined to create relief for female professors and postdoctoral researchers for their committee work within the framework of the Excellence Strategy as well as in the Equal Opportunities Plan. It was developed on the basis of a quantitative and qualitative survey of (female) professors and approved by the Equal Opportunities Council and the Rectorate.

General information

What is the aim of the call for applications?

The call for proposals is intended to value and reward above-average committee work by female postdocs and to promote the goal of parity in committee membership. The bonus is awarded once a year in the form of student assistants, travel grants or material funding via a simple application through the Equal Opportunities Council's Awards Committee.

Am I eligible to apply?

The committee bonus is available to female researchers at the University of Konstanz who hold a doctorate and are in the process of academic qualifying. Young female researchers at the University of Konstanz who substitute a professorship can also apply. It is open to researchers whose identity varies from traditional gender norms, e.g. transgender, transsexual, intersex or agender. Guest researchers are excluded.

Who receives a committee bonus?

Applications are submitted using the following online form. All female applicants who are active in at least two committees are eligible for funding, subject to approval by the Equal Opportunities Council's Awards Committee. Membership counts as soon as it falls in the academic year in which the application is made, i.e. in this case the academic year 2022/23. Appointment committees (“Berufungskommissionen”) count if all or single meetings took place or are planned in the current academic year. Membership of an appointment committee can only be rewarded once with a committee bonus, even if the meeting time falls in different call periods. You will receive information about the funding and the amount approximately 4 weeks after the application deadline.

How can the committee bonus be used?

The funding amount is distributed in equal shares to all grantees. The maximum funding amount per person is 2,500 euros. This amount is available in a separate sub-account until 31 December 2022 and can be used within the regularity framework of the Excellence Strategy for student assistants, travel, material or investment funds. For example, for a funding amount of 2,500 euros, a MA-student assistant contract for 162 hours would be possible.
