THE Europe Teaching Ranking 2019 confirms excellent teaching and learning environment at the University of Konstanz – belongs to top group in Europe.

According to the new THE Europe Teaching Ranking, published on 4 July 2019 by Times Higher Education (THE), the University of Konstanz is ranked in the 76 to 100 range of universities in Europe. This result, combined with a top 10 placement in Germany, makes the university on Lake Constance one of the best European universities in regard to teaching excellence. The ranking is based on both student survey and university data.

Fourteen performance indicators, divided into the following four key performance areas, were combined to create an overall performance score:  Engagement – does the institution effectively engage with its students? Resources – does the institution have the capacity to effectively teach its students? Outcomes – does the institution generate appropriate academic results for its students? Environment – is the institution's teaching and learning environment inclusive? In other words, does the universit have a balanced gender distribution among students and lecturers as well as a high proportion of international students?

A total of 258 universities from 18 countries were assessed for this ranking. The ranking results are primarily based on the THE European Student Survey. This year, 125,000 students responded to questions on various topics, including student engagement, student interaction with teachers, quality of university services, and career preparation. Students were asked, for example, to what extent their university promotes critical thinking, and to what extent they are provided the opportunity to contact and communicate with their teachers.

The THE Europe Teaching Ranking was published in 2018 for the first time. It is the first THE ranking to focus exclusively on the areas of study and teaching.
