The University of Konstanz projects that it will need an additional 55,000 square metres of space by 2060 (on top of the approx. 120,000 square metres of current space). The university aims to utilize this space for future-oriented key scientific projects in the areas of research and teaching.

Both the University of Konstanz and the city of Konstanz hosted an information event on the updates to the university development planning process on Wednesday, 5 June 2019 in the Audimax lecture hall. The development process was initiated by the city of Konstanz’s municipal council and the technical and environmental committee (TUA) in 2011 when they officially decided to amend the development plan. Together with nature conservation associations, municipal institutions and other public bodies, a master plan (urban development concept) was then created to serve as the basis for the new development plan. The 2011 land-use plan has since been amended: In April 2019, both the TUA and the municipal council officially decided to draw up a new version of the development plan with additional space for development.

As part of the city of Konstanz’s current public participation process, members of the public can review the relevant plans and documents (in German only) at the Amt für Stadtplanung und Umwelt (office for city planning and environment (Untere Laube 5th floor, in front of the rooms 5.04/05) or online at http://www.konstanz.de/bauleitplanung . Feedback on the ongoing proceedings can be submitted to the city of Konstanz until 21 June 2019.
