Top scores for Konstanz

For the first time, CWTS has published a fully transparent edition of the internationally renowned Leiden Ranking, based on open data: the Leiden Ranking Open Edition. As previously in the regular editions, the University of Konstanz achieved top rankings in the categories "Open Access" and "International Collaboration".

The University of Konstanz is a pioneer in Germany in the field of transparent and open science, and its researchers have an excellent international network. This is confirmed by the new "Open Edition" of the CWTS Leiden Ranking 2023, which is based entirely on open data.

In two categories of the national comparison, the University of Konstanz ranks first among the 57 universities evaluated: once with its share of open access publications and once with its share of joint publications with international partners. In the reporting period (2018-2021), 79.4 % of Konstanz publications were open access and 64.8 % were joint publications with international partners. In the global comparison of 1,411 universities, Konstanz achieved excellent placements among the top ten percent worldwide: 105th in the category open access, 123rd in the category international collaboration.

A consistently high level
In the regular edition of the CWTS Leiden Ranking 2023, the University of Konstanz also reached place one in the two categories mentioned. In fact, the University of Konstanz has consistently led the field in Germany in the area of open access: In all 13 reporting periods covered to date, Konstanz has taken first place nationwide with its share of open access publications.

About the Open Edition of the CWTS Leiden Ranking 2023
The Open Edition of the CWTS Leiden Ranking 2023 compares the research contributions of 1,411 universities from 72 countries based on their publications in the period from 2018 to 2021. In contrast to the regular CWTS Leiden Ranking 2023, which uses data from the paid-access citation and literature database "Web of Science", the Open Edition is based on freely accessible data from the platform OpenAlex. This way everyone can access the information, which makes the placings more transparent.
