The prize is awarded to researchers who demonstrate exceptional ability to write about scientific topics so that interested lay-people are able to easily understand their texts. The donor, Professor Anna Krüger (1904-1991), lectured on the didactics of German literature. She transferred her estate to the Anna Krüger Foundation. The Institute for Advanced Study Berlin is both heir to and the location of the foundation.
