Prerequisite
One of the legal guardians must be employed or enroled as a student at the University of Konstanz in order for your child to be cared for at the Kinderhaus Knirps & Co.
Registration
Nursery (under three years of age): register at the municipal portal as early as possible. The sooner after birth you register, the earlier you will have a place on the internal waiting list.
You are welcome to make an appointment via e-mail or phone to schedule a tour of the Kinderhaus.
In order to have your child being cared for at the Kinderhaus Knirps & Co, please follow these steps:
- Fill out the form for the daycare center registration at the municipal portal of the City of Konstanz.
- Send a copy of this registration as well as certificates of employment/enrolment of both legal guardians to the Kinderhaus Knirps & Co.
The registration for the following kindergarten year has to be complete on March 1st the latest. After that, no consideration is possible in the allocation of places for the following kindergarten year.
Admission
The admission or allocation of places is based on different criteria. For admission to the daycare center, the registration date and thus the waiting time is decisive. However, due to the following reasons, there may be shifts in the waiting list and a preferred admission of a child:

a) Admission taking into account the group composition by age

b) Admission of siblings
They may be given preference for admission if all of the following applies:
- the care of the older sibling was not longer than one year ago,
- the parents have remained members of the Knirps & Co. association, and
- the parents distinguish themselves through special social commitment to the association.

c) Admission according to space allotment
Certain places are pre-reserved by certain groups at the university. Admission in such a case is bound to the subsidy providers.

d) Admission of children with disabilities
Children with disabilities and/or children whose parents are disabled may be given preference if the child's or parent's disability makes it particularly difficult to combine work or studies with family life.

e) Residence
Only a limited number of places are available for children from outside the city (=children who do not live in the city of Constance). If this is exhausted, a place can only be given to a child from Switzerland or Radolfzell, for example, when another "out-of-towner" place becomes available.
For the reasons mentioned above, registration on the waiting list does not guarantee that you will receive a place in a timely manner.
Please note that nursery and kindergarten places usually become available in September. The waiting time for a nursery place is on average about 9 months.
The date of registration does not play a role in the allocation of kindergarten places. However, since the Ü3 (over three years old) places are only full-day places, the extent of the parents' employment is also taken into account as an allocation criterion in addition to the above-mentioned criteria.
Due to the current space situation, no Ü3 (over three years old) places are allocated to children who were not already at Knirps as a nursery child.
What's next?
As soon as a place becomes available, we will contact all eligible parents by e-mail or telephone. We therefore ask you to be sure to include your e-mail address when making your reservation.
In order to regularly update the waiting list, we will ask you once or twice a year whether the registration is still maintained. Please inform us immediately if you withdraw your registration or if your details have changed.
In the event that you have already confirmed a place (even verbally) and cancel at short notice, we will have to charge you for the costs incurred.
