Acquiring external funding is a crucial step in establishing a research career. Thus, this practice-oriented course will focus on the elements of a successful proposal. It is open to postdoctoral and doctoral researchers in the final stages of their dissertation from all disciplines who want to obtain third-party funding for their research project and have little or no experience in proposal writing. On both workshop days, we will discuss ways to find the right funding source for your project. You will learn how to formulate your research question and how to define your objectives, how to draft a convincing budget, what matters most in writing grant proposals, which pitfalls to avoid, and how the review process is structured.

As you will write parts of your draft proposal in small exercises and will discuss them with the group, participants are expected to bring a project idea they want to work on.
