Highly popular location for international researchers

The University of Konstanz placed 4th in the 2023 Humboldt Ranking of the most popular host universities for international research stays funded by the Humboldt Foundation.

Researchers coming to Germany with a fellowship or award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation can choose their host university themselves. According to the 2023 Humboldt Ranking, the University of Konstanz is especially popular among these international researchers: Konstanz reached place 4.

"A top position in the Humboldt Ranking is an important indicator of the global reputation of German research institutions. Every research stay in Germany means the guest decided in favour of a German host", the Humboldt Foundation explains. A total of 66 Humboldt fellows and 11 Humboldt Foundation award winners came to Konstanz between 2018 and 2022.

Every year, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation funds stays in Germany for over 2,000 researchers from all over the world. The 2023 Humboldt Ranking assessed the research locations chosen by 6,480 international academics who came to Germany between 2018 and 2022 with fellowships or awards from the Humboldt Foundation. The number of research stays is put in relation to the number of professorships at the respective university in order to avoid statistical distortions. Overall, the ranking included 130 universities and 400 non-university research institutions, with universities and research institutions ranked separately.
