The presence of one’s ,native‘ theatre tradition in ,foreign‘ cultural contexts became the proof of successful (theatre) policy in Europe in the 18th century. Simultaneously, there were defensive movements against external theatrical influences. The subproject investigates the connection between such theatre politics and the stabilisation, irritation and transmission of literary forms. It examines the migration and reception of non-codified and codified dramas between Spain, Italy and France in the 17th and 18th centuries. The study thus operates at an intermediate level between abstract models of transcultural mobility and reception studies that focus on specific works.

The project identifies specific forms of drama migration and reception (translation, edition, performance). It analyses how dramatic forms change during their translation by mediating agents (translators, actors, salonnières, poéticiens) and how new poetic and political constellations emerge through the reception of dramas.
