Preparatory language courses

Did you complete schooling in your home country that qualifies you to study at a university there? Or did you already study there? Would you like to study in Germany, and have you already got German language skills on at least level B1?

For most study programmes taught in German you will need to demonstrate language skills equivalent to level C1 CEFR. We offer a German language course for refugees to help you prepare for the respective language examination (TestDaF or Telc C1).

You can register online for the preparatory language course for refugees and/or make an appointment for a consultation. If the desired course is full we can take new applicants on our waiting list.

We are currently offering the following courses:

C1/1 from May until July 2024 -- 12 hours per week (three mornings) -- waiting list

Preparation for TestDaF (digital) /TelcC1 Hochschule -- compact course in summersemester 2024

Our courses used to be financed by the Integra program of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). This program ended now and we are looking for funds in order to be able to offer further courses after July 2024. There is still a high demand -- would you like to become a sponsor for our courses? We are looking forward to your message on studieren-im-asyl@uni-konstanz.de

Course fees

Course attendance is free. In return, we expect you to attend all classes, unless you have important reasons not to. You must inform us about your reasons for not attending class (e.g. illness). You owe this to those who would like to attend courses but have not been given a place in the programme.

You will have to cover the cost for books, travel expenses and examination fees yourself.

Recognition of certificate(s)

There are various authorities in Germany that can recognize your school or university certificate(s). You should contact the correct authority for your specific certificate(s). We recommend that you obtain advice on which authority is responsible for your certificate(s).

If you will be applying for a bachelor's programme at the University of Konstanz, then uniassist will check your certificates as part of the application process.

Some universities review the certificates of prospective bachelor’s students themselves.

If you would like to apply for a master's programme at the University of Konstanz, please apply directly to the university. The corresponding department will review your certificates. We recommend scheduling a consultation with the respective department before you apply. You can talk to departmental advisors about the questions you have about the respective programme, e.g.: What content does the programme cover and what options do you have after graduation? Contact the coordinator for refugee students if you have questions about organizing your studies. Use the registration/appointment form to send us a message. We will gladly make an appointment to speak with you in person or will answer your questions via email or phone, if you happen to live further away.

If you would like to study at a university of applied sciences, you can request recognition of your certificate(s) from the Studienkolleg Konstanz. You can find the request form in the left-hand column.

If you are unsure about what is the right path for you, do not hesitate to contact us. Use the registration/appointment form to schedule an appointment.

If you need your certificates to apply for a job or professional training, you will need to talk to a different authority. Contact the following organizations for help identifying the correct authority for your certificates:
