Hygiene tips for the prevention of infectious diseases

To prevent the spreading of infectious diseases, including the Covid-19 disease caused by the coronavirus, we kindly ask you to follow our hygiene tips:

Hand hygiene:
Washing your hands regularly and thoroughly is one of the best ways to protect yourself and others from infectious diseases, including the coronavirus:

  • Please soap your hands for at least 20 seconds. Make sure to wash really all parts of your hand up to the wrist. Often people forget to clean the back of the hand, the fingertips, under the fingernails, between the fingers and the thumb. Liquid soap usually is more hygienic than bars of soap.
  • Dry your hands with a clean towel. The most hygienic are disposable towels. Please take care to also carefully dry the area between your fingers.
  • In public lavatories, use a towel or your elbow to close the tap.

Greeting without handshake:
Germs may be transferred during handshakes. Consequently, at the University of Konstanz it is absolutely fine if you do not shake hands when greeting others. Instead, simply express your appreciation with a warm verbal greeting.

More information is available on the University of Konstanz’s Occupational Safety, Health and Environmental Protection website. The page also includes the most important information about the Rectorate’s decision from 22 April 2020 as well as the corresponding documents.
