The ZKF welcomes its 100th member

Four years ago, the Centre for Cultural Inquiry (ZKF) was founded and the number of members has grown steadily since then. It is with pleasure that the team welcomes Dr Banhishikha Ghosh, who researches in the field of anthropology, sociology and gender studies, as the 100th member in its ranks.

Foundation in November 2019

Around three and a half years ago, on 27 November 2019, the Centre for Cultural Inquiry (ZKF) was launched at the University of Konstanz as the successor institution to the Cluster of Excellence "Cultural Foundations of Social Integration". Its 66 founding members came from the academic fields of literature, art and media studies, history, sociology, anthropology, philosophy, political and administrative studies, law, empirical educational research and linguistics.

Function and activities of the ZKF

The Centre moved into the rooms of the former Institute for Advanced Study Konstanz in the Bischofsvilla on the banks of the Rhine, where around 20 researchers and guests of the participating initiatives are housed. As an umbrella institution, the ZKF provides an academic home for third-party funded institutions such as the NOMIS research project "Traveling Forms", the Konstanz branch of the nationwide "Research Institute Social Cohesion" or the Dr. K.H. Eberle research project "Communal sense. Political challenges and cultural practices".

Every Wednesday evening, on the occasion of the "ZKF Public Talks", the Bischofsvilla’s seminar room becomes a forum for interdisciplinary exchange, for networking among Centre members and for meetings with the university and city public. In the course of its existence, the ZKF has supported a variety of projects of its members and provided start-up funding for individual and joint projects. Since then, the number of members has risen continuously, and on 1 July 2023, the ZKF welcomed its 100th member.

The 100th member: Dr Banhishikha Ghosh

Dr Banhishikha Ghosh is working on her research project "Citizenship from below: the role of Queer Voices in negotiating E-Governance" for the next two years with start-up funding from the ZKF. For the past six months, she has already been associated with the ZKF and has conducted field research for this project in India. Prior to this, she was a Swiss Government Excellence PhD Scholar at the University of Zurich. We warmly welcome Ms Ghosh to the ZKF!
