Studying Business Studies and Economics means: You analyze economic activities of consumers, companies and public institutions. In economics, the focus is on the fundamental economic relationships of a society both at the level of economic units (microeconomics) and at the overall economic level (macroeconomics). In business administration, you study the economic situation of individual companies and their operational processes.

From the start, you can set your individual focus and choose one of the five following study profiles:

  • Applied Economics: You use cutting-edge tools to analyze data and understand key current economic and societal challenges. Thus, you will be perfectly prepared for successful careers in business, the public sector, research institutions and NGOs, as well as for a diverse range of master's programmes.
  • Business Economics: You will focus on economic issues and problems related to the organization, management and strategy of companies. Applying economics concepts and data-analytical strategies to real-life situations prepares you to make better management decisions.
  • International Finance: You will concentrate on the financing of all kinds of things: companies, projects, your own livelihood. You also explore the interconnections between the many players in finance, institutions and governments.
  • Psychology and Human Resources: You will learn how humans make decisions and how you can use this knowledge in personnel economics, for example.
  • Economics and Business Education: You will acquire knowledge of basic economics, pedagogical and didactic theories and methods. By continuing with a master's programme, you have the option, among other things, to specialize in teaching and to effectively design learning processes in vocational schools or companies. You will also gain in-depth knowledge of economics (in MSc Economics and Business Education, programme concentration I) or choose a general required elective (political science, history, German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry, sports (in MSc Economics and Business Education programme concentration II).

In the study profiles Applied Economics, Business Economics, International Finance as well as Psychology and Human Resources, the 5th semester is flexible so you can complete a longer internship (4.5 months) or study abroad.

Language skills

Foreign language skills
You do not have to document any additional foreign language skills.

German language skills
International applicants need to submit documentation of their German language skills, level DSH-2 or TestDaF 4. Alternatively, you may submit other recognized language tests or recognized school certificates. The University of Konstanz does not offer preparatory German language courses or approved German language exams. For this reason, you have to submit an accredited proof of your German language skills along with your application.

The languages of instruction in the bachelor’s programme are German and English.

General higher education entrance qualification (Abitur) or equivalent.

Documentation Orientation Test
When applying for admission at universities in the state of Baden-Württemberg, you have to document having taken an orientation test. The Baden-Württemberg orientation test is the most widely used test. Please send in your certificate of participation along with your application documents.

Fees

Semester fee

All students enrolled at the University of Konstanz are charged a semester fee each semester, similar to all other German universities. Here you can find the current semester fee and its individual components.

Tuition fees for first degree studies for certain international students
Since winter semester 2017/18, the state of Baden-Württemberg has required some international students to pay tuition fees for their first degree studies. The following students are not required to pay tuition fees: citizens of a country within the European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area (EEA), doctoral students and certain “Bildungsinländer” (e.g. non-EU citizens with a German “Abitur”). Each year, the University of Konstanz grants exemptions to a limited number of particularly gifted international degree-seeking students in accordance with the university’s “Begabtenbefreiungssatzung” (statutes governing the exemption of gifted students). Tuition fees for second degree studies for all students
All students are required to pay tuition fees for their second degree studies. More detailed information can be found here.

Application and application documents

This study programme has admission restrictions.

An application is possible during the following period: 9.5. - 15.7. (winter semester). There may be other deadlines if you are applying for admission to a higher semester (for instance, if you are changing subjects or universities). For more information please consult the university website.

Application documents

During the online application process, you will need to enter various kinds of information (school grades, attendance periods etc.) and upload various PDF documents. Please make sure that you have the relevant documentation ready. This may include:

  • your Abitur certificate (German general higher education entrance qualification)
  • documentation of any volunteering you may have done (FSJ, FÖJ etc.)
  • any documentation about vocational training you may have completed
  • any other required documents (medical certificate etc.)
