Efficiency and justice in resource scarcity? - Human Empowerment instead of Algorithm and the Role of (Criminal) Law

Physicians are caught between the fronts of efficiency and equity when resources are scarce and allocation decisions have to be made nonetheless. If every life counts equally and no human being is worth less than another, an allocation based on personal criteria is problematic. Only a random algorithm then apparently preserves the requirement of equality.  If, at the same time, current studies show that algorithm-supported follow-up triage based on the SAPS score reduces mortality even within the group of the so-called "hopeless", this should be allowed to find its way into into everyday medical practice. But should implies can. So what are doctors supposed to do? And what cases need fixing crime? This research project takes an interdisciplinary look at the need for regulation of dilemmatic conflicts, especially in the face of increasing digitalization.
