Transforming Infrastructure – Cultural Perspectives

The interdisciplinary research initiative “Transforming Infrastructure: Cultural Perspectives” investigates both the cultural dimensions of infrastructure and the infrastructures of culture. Conceiving of infrastructure as the support systems of human sociality, the initiative addresses pressing questions regarding infrastructure’s relevance in times of global, technological, cultural, and climatic transformation.

Three complementing research axes provide the means to investigate the cultural dimensions of infrastructure: Literary studies and Philosophy impart insight into concomitant imaginaries; Sociology, Anthropology, and Media studies identify associated practices; while History leads analyses related to processes.

We are happy to announce to the edited collection "Rethinking Infrastructure Across the Humanities" has been published and is now available for download!

With chapters primarily drawn from scholars at the University of Konstanz, "Rethinking Infrastructure Across the Humanities" explores the possibilities of infrastructure research within the humanities, considering infrastructure as an object of study, as an analytical term, and as a methodology. The volume is organized by shared conceptual foci that invite connections that cross disciplinary boundaries. We hope that "Rethinking Infrastructure Across the Humanities" will help to foster new conversations on the benefits of considering infrastructure within a humanities context.

"Rethinking Infrastructure Across the Humanities" is open access and freely available to download as a pdf.
