Travel to Konstanz

The nearest international airports to Konstanz are in Zurich (1 hour), then Stuttgart (2 hours) or Frankfurt am Main (4 hours).

Budget airlines land in Friedrichshafen (Ryanair) or in Memmingen (Wizzair). To reach Konstanz from Friedrichshafen, you can use the Catamaran. Use the train to travel from Memmingen via Lindau to Konstanz.

1. via Zurich:

By train:
The best option is the train from the Zurich airport to Konstanz. The trains are available every half-hour and take approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes.

By bus/coach:
First you will take the train from the Zurich airport to the Zurich train station. The travel time is approximately 10 minutes. From the main train station in Zurich you can take the Flixbus intercity bus directly to Konstanz. The bus stop in Konstanz is called “Döbele.” The travel time is approximately 1 hour. 

2. via Friedrichshafen

By train:
From the airport you can take the IRE (InterRegioExpress) towards Singen/Basel. Change trains in Radolfzell for a direct connection to Konstanz. The trains are available every two hours. Travel time is approx. 1 hour and 40 minutes.

By public transport:
From the airport take the Städteschnellbus 7394 (city express bus) from Friedrichshafen to Konstanz. The bus is usually available eight times a day. Travel time is 1 hour and 30 minutes.

3. via Stuttgart

By train:
From the Stuttgart airport take the S-Bahn (train) to Stuttgart-Hauptbahnhof (main train station). The train connection to Singen is available every hour. From there, you will take the train connection to Konstanz. The total travel time is approx. 3 hours and 30 minutes.  If you don’t want to pay for the express trains (ICE, IC), you may also use the "Baden-Württemberg - Ticket Single” (weekdays from 09:00 and on weekends starting at 24:00) from Stuttgart to Konstanz.

By bus/coach:
From the bus terminal at Stuttgart airport you can reach Konstanz ("Döbele") directly with Flixbus. The travel time is approximately 2-3 hours depending on the traffic and connection. 

4. via Frankfurt am Main

From Frankfurt airport/long-distance train station you can take the train south to Konstanz (with connections in Stuttgart/Singen or Baden-Baden or Offenburg). Travel time is approx. 4 hours and 30 minutes.

On the websites of the Deutschen Bahn (German trains) or Schweizer Bahn (Swiss trains) you can find the fastest connections to Konstanz. From Switzerland you can reach Konstanz very easily from the Swiss train station in neighbouring Kreuzlingen.

From Stuttgart (180 km)

Autobahn (motorway) A 81 towards Singen. From exit "Kreuz Hegau" onwards, you will find signs for Konstanz In Konstanz, follow the signs for “Universität”.

From Munich (220 km)

Autobahn (motorway) A 96 towards Lindau. In Lindau, take B 31 towards Meersburg. From Meersburg, take the vehicle ferry to Konstanz. In Konstanz, follow the signs for “Universität”.

From Zurich (75 km)

Autobahn (motorway) A7 towards Kreuzlingen/Konstanz. Near the border, follow the signs for “Mainau”. Then follow the signs for “Universität“.

You can park at the university for 1.50 Euro for the day. Signs will lead you to the parking lots. Please consult our information on parking options (locations, opening hours, etc.). 

You can easily reach any of the residence halls using public transport, i.e. by Konstanz city bus. You can find information on the bus network and connection information on the website of the Stadtwerke Konstanz .

At the beginning of the semester you may purchase a semester ticket (October / April). This Studi-Ticket is only valid with the university student ID card.

You will be able to purchase a monthly commuter ticket for all buses within Konstanz on the first day of GO-Konstanz (March/September). On the first day of OriPro (April/October), you will be able to purchase the semester ticket (Studi-Ticket).

When you use the intercity bus e.g. Flixbus to reach Konstanz, you can use the bus line 9A or bus line 1 to reach the train station. Bus line 5 will take you to the bus stop "Sternenplatz", from which you can use all bus lines. If you are living in the following residence halls, you will get off at the “Gartenstr.” bus stop to then walk to your destination in 5-10 minutes: Europahaus, Jan-Hus-Haus, Albertus Magnus Haus, Thomas Blarer Haus, Paradies. For the “Paradies” residence hall, you can also get off at the “Ellenrieder Gymnasium” bus stop.

Here you will find the various ways to reach your residence hall from the train station (“Bahnhof”):

• Residence halls Sonnenbühl Ost high-rise, Sonnenbühl Ost group housing, Sonnenbühl West I, Sonnenbühl West II:
  Bus: line 9A or 9B or line 14, bus stop "Bahnhof" to bus stop "Jacob-Burckhardt-Str.". West I and West II are next to the bus stop. You can reach residence hall Sonnenbühl Ost by foot in 5-10 minutes. Residence hall Sonnenbühlstr. 38/40: Bus: line 9B, bus stop "Bahnhof" to bus stop "Sonnenbühlstr.", 1 minute walking distance to the residence hall.
• Residence halls Europahaus, Jan-Hus-Haus, Albertus Magnus Haus, Thomas Blarer Haus, Paradies:
  Bus: All bus lines from the bus stop “Bahnhof” to the bus stop “Sternenplatz”, then 3 minutes by foot through the underpass to the other side of the street. Get on bus line 9A until bus stop “Gartenstr.” For the “Paradies” residence hall, you can also get off at the “Ellenrieder Gymnasium” bus stop.
• Residence hall Petershauser Strasse:
  Bus: line 6, bus stop "Bahnhof" to bus stop "Tenbrinkstr.", 3 minute walking distance to the residence hall.
  Alternative: All bus lines from the bus stop "Bahnhof" to bus stop "Sternenplatz", 10 minute walking distance to the residence hall.
• Residence halls Seerhein, Petershauser Bahnhof:
  Bus:  bus line 6, from the "Bahnhof” bus stop to the bus stop "Gottmannplatz", then walk 3-5 minutes to the residence halls.
• Residence halls Schürmann-Horster-Weg, C3-Konstanz:
  Bus: All bus lines from the bus stop "Bahnhof" to bus stop "Sternenplatz", then bus line 2, line 3 or line 12 to the "Fürstenberg" bus stop, then 5 minutes on foot to the residence halls.
• Residence hall Jungerhalde:
  Bus: bus line 1, line 15 or line 4/13 from the "Bahnhof" bus stop to the "Allmansdorf" bus stop, then 5-10 minutes on foot to the residence hall

Bus line 9A or 9B from the "Bahnhof” bus stop to the final bus stop "Universität".

The buses are available every 15 minutes until 20:00. Thereafter, they drive every 30 minutes and stop directly in front of the main university entrance. The buses have a limited schedule on Saturdays. Bus line 9 does not operate on Sundays or holidays.

Bus line 4/13 from the "Bahnhof" bus station to the "Egg/Universität” bus stop.
The buses are available until 15:30 every 30 minutes. Thereafter, they drive every 15 minutes until 21:00, at which point they begin to operate every hour. You will get off near the side entrance to the university near buildings G and H. On Saturdays and Sundays and holidays the bus is available every 30 minutes until 21:00. Thereafter, the bus operates on an hourly basis.
