This talk will introduce several types of multiple classifier systems including bagging, boosting, random forests and random subspaces. It will shown they can be as effective or more effective than a single classifier even when the data set is very large. We will also discuss ways to evaluate groups of classifiers with statistical rigor. The drawbacks of cross validation will be discussed as well as an alternative approach based on accuracy rankings.
