Graduate Program Overview

The Graduiertenkolleg (PhD Program) aims at continuing international cooperation and education for individuals currently engaged in science, technology and engineering-related fields. It provides young researchers in these fields with an opportunity to conduct innovative research and to pursue a doctorate in Computer and Information Science. Graduates will work in coordinated research programs together with a distinguished faculty and in collaboration with renowned associated institutions.

The central topic in the graduate program is Explorative Analysis and Visualization of Large Information Spaces. This area corresponds to the research interests and specialization of the faculty in the Computer and Information Science Department. The program offers a wide range of courses in computer and information science, and seeks to complement the specializations of the individual graduate student. Both the theoretical and applied aspects of computer and information science are emphasized in the program.

The program is supported and funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). The mission of the DFG is to further advancement and education of young researchers within the framework of an international cooperation between universities and scientists worldwide. The Graduiertenkolleg (PhD Program) was established and is staffed by renowned scholars and experts in their field, who blend current research with traditional and topical knowledge. At this time the faculty consists of ten tenured professors.

Duration

The PhD graduate program started on July 1, 2004, until June 30, 2013.
An additional spin-out phase is carried out until June 30, 2015.

Financial Support

The program offers various types of fellowships The stipend for a doctoral student in compliance with the DFG-standard amounts to a minimum of 1103 Euro and is tax free. It may be granted for a period of three years.
The stipend for a master research student amounts to max. 225 EUR per month and may be awarded for one year.
