Advances in information technologies and microelectronics provide a huge potential for performance monitoring and feedback training in sports. The high dynamics of innovations on one hand as well as constitutional or situational changes of constellations and objectives in many sports discipline on the other support the notion of more flexible and adaptive systems. A Team Cycling Training System (TCTS) has been established as a prototype application of ambient intelligence systems in sports. The objective of the TCTS is to improve the training of a whole group of cyclist in a way that each cyclist should meet his predefined exercise intensity as close as possible. This talk will address various aspects of ambient intelligences systems such as tailored communication systems for outdoor training, software architecture to support dynamic integration of heterogeneous devices in a sports-specific environment as well as control algorithms for the optimization of cycling training.
