We welcome Jolene Tan to the Zukunftskolleg
Jolene Tan is the last of our new fellows from the 12th call for applications to join the Zukunftskolleg. She will start her 2-year Postdoctoral Fellowship on June 1st and is affiliated with the department of psychology.
Jolene obtained her PhD from the Department of Education and Psychology at the Free University Berlin, Germany. Before coming to Konstanz, she completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Erfurt as well as at the Max-Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin. At the Max Planck Institute for Human Development, she was part of an interdisciplinary research group where she worked with economists, computer scientists, biologists, mathematicians, engineers as well as psychologists. Being exposed to these perspectives during her training helped her to think more broadly about her research topics and methodology.
At the Zukunftskolleg, Jolene will work on her research project “New perspectives on social trust and its role in cooperation”. Even though social trust is considered fundamental to a well-functioning society and is studied extensively across the social sciences, it is not known how social trust interacts with other factors to produce specific decisions about cooperative actions. Jolene will focus on the psychological aspects of social trust by viewing it as an assessment of the base rate of benevolent versus malevolent agents in the social environment.
