Abstract:
Interdisciplinary research is highly valued for its potential for innovative insight and scientific progress. At the same time it can be frustrating for scientists to do such research as it is prone to failure in collaborative settings. In this talk I want to explore these aspects by focussing on the epistemic and cognitive resources needed to enable successful interdisciplinary research. I describe several aspects of integrating linguistic, cognitive and epistemic frameworks from different disciplines. This can explain the difficulties of interdisciplinary research faces and shows a way forward in supporting local and global interdisciplinarity.
