Public Talk: Memories for the future: Contemporary memory debates in Barcelona

The Zukunftskolleg invited everyone to the Public Talk led by Dr. Kathrin Golda Pongratz (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya & Universitat Internacional de Catalunya)

The lecture focused on current debates and recent issues of urban memory in the city of Barcelona. These span from the memory of the self-built city and its struggles for dignified housing, the memory of the political repression during the Franco era in its diverse layers as well as a current debate on the colonial past of the city and a needed contestation of certain monuments related to it. It discussed most recent commemorative acts, and, at the same time, presented its protagonists both from civic activism and from the local authority's side, such as the Council for Democratic Memory.
