Studying reactive conflict dynamics

Jour fixe talk by Sebastian Schutte on 30 October 2018

Sebastian Schutte is a Research Fellow associated with the Department of Politics and Public Administration

Over the past four years, Sebastian Schutte has used his fellowships at the Zukunftskolleg to research civil wars. A recurrent theme in his research are "reactive conflict dynamics", here defined as changes in loyalties and hostilities that result from exposure to political violence. Studying such dynamics is an important avenue for predicting conflict escalations from small-scale political uprisings to full-blown ethnic or religious civil wars. Before leaving the Zukunftskolleg in December to join the Peace Research Institute Oslo, Sebastian will summarize his insights up to this point and sketch out future research ambitions for prediction and mitigation of large-scale political violence.
