Abstract

The convergence of affine fractal operator F used in image compression is investigated. Effective sufficient conditions for eventual contractivity are presented. When F is not contractive, the notion of perceptual convergence is introduced and the codition for this convergence is stated. For the operator FQ which is a quantised version of F, the perceptual convergence is shown for a broad class of contractive fractal operators. For the operator FM which is a mean shifted version of F it is proved that in practical circumstances the same fixed point can be reached in only few iterations.
