Abstract

Iterated Block Matching Fractal (IMBF) encoding process exploits the fractal similarities within an image by coding the image using itself. A best match is obtained for every block to be coded from the pool of blocks generated from the image itself. The matching parameters are transmitted resulting in compression. In this work, a fast encoder is developed which codes a range block by applying isometry calculations on the range blocks themselves as opposed to the conventional method of applying it on the contracted domain blocks. Our new algorithm achieved a computational speed improvement of 80% over our previous method [1], at the same PSNR of 31.1 and a Compression Ratio of 10.88, for the image of Lena.
