Fractal methods for graphic data compression attract much attention. However, the high computational costs of compact description (compression) of an arbitrary image remain a serious problem. In this paper, two methods for reducing the body of computations are discussed. In one of these methods, a preliminary classification of the image fragments based on the concept of Hausdorff dimension is used. The Mersenne transform is employed in the other method.
