Abstract

This report describes a novel approach to automatic fractal shape coding and its application on encoding Chines calligraphic characters. We have formulated an automatic fractal shape coding method and investigated the fractal characteristics of the outlines of Chines calligraphic characters, with a view to creating fractal Chinese calligraphic fonts. Given the fractal characteristics of the font, characters can be regenerated in different scales with infinite details along the outlines that simulate the natural bleeding effect of brushstrokes. The resulting coding scheme has been designed in such a way that it minimizes the storage size and the complexity for encoding and regeneration.
