Abstract

A method for the priori compulation of affine transform parameters like geometrical scaling factors is described and applied to search problems occuring in fractal image analysis and coding. Based on displacement invariant image representations in the FOURIER domain, scaling parameters are computed prior to any domain region search. After rescaling of the image according to the estimated parameters, domain search as known from typical fractal encoders can be carried out. Here this is also done based on FOURIER methods, which allow the automatic delection of suitable domain and range regions. The method can be extended to the estimation of rotation parameters and in addition to fractal analysis is suitable for motion compensated prediction and frame rate conversion of image sequences using affine motion models.
