No German needed: Courses taught in English at the University of Konstanz

You  will find that individual departments offer a wide range of courses taught in English, and some in English/German concurrently. On the Master level, more courses are taught in English than on an undergraduate level, but in general, English courses are on the rise. And even in German taught courses, a lot of literature read is in English. Giving your presentation or writing a term paper in English is also always an option. The courses for the upcoming semester will only be available 2 months before it starts. Please consult the preceeding semester to get an idea of what is offered throughout the different departments. Many courses are offered every term or academic year. You can browse by study programs or use the search function.

For your convenience, we have collected some English instructed courses within the different departments below. Please know that until the beginning of the semester, courses can still be changed and more courses be added. Some departments also offer special courses just for international students. How to find courses taught in English in the Winter Semester 2017/18

General course catalog (ZEuS)

This option will list you all available courses at the University of Konstanz. Please be aware that these coures are mostly not taught in English, but in German language. With a German leven of at least B2 you should be able to follow academic courses in German.

Navigate to the electronic course catalog of the University of Konstanz. Select your level of studies (BA/MA etc.) and whether it is your major or minor.  Then select the respective department by clicking on the listed departments.

International Office

The International Office offers some courses covering cultural and historic aspects of Germany and Europe. These coures can also be found in ZEuS. Scroll down to "International Office - Regional and additional interdisziplinary courses in English".

Green Office - Virtual Academy of Sustainability (E-Learning)

E-Learning at the Virtual Academy of Sustainability
The Virtual Academy of Sustainability (VA) offers courses on sustainability, which are entirely online-based – including videos, all materials needed for the course and an online mock exam. After you successfully passed the electronic exam, you earn 1 to 3 credits as well as a certificate for participation. You can access all materials online any time. Moreover, we offer an obligatory tutorial for the English courses including organisational sessions and a content-related tutorial for the course “Sustainability Marketing”. Registration is possible for students of all study programs. No prior knowledge is required.

For the successful participation in the E-Learning courses “Sustainability Marketing”, “Energiewende - Energy transition in Germany”, “World in transition” and “Civic Ecology - A pathway to Sustainability”, it is necessary to attend one of the three organisational introductions (both sessions).
If you take the course “Sustainability Marketing”, you are further required to attend to following tutorial.

You need to participate in at least three of the four sessions to get the credits for the
course. As the tutorial includes exam preparation, we recommend you to attend all
sessions in order to pass the exam successfully.

You can choose one of the following dates for the final exam:

22th March, 2018, 10 am
All exams take place in room BS217 (in the library).

How to receive a grade:
It is possible to receive a grade, if needed. You can decide whether you would like your exam results to be graded (or not) when you register for the exam during the semester (we will send you more information on this soon).

What if I fail the first attempt?
It is also possible to repeat the exam if you failed the first attempt. Please be aware that in this case there will be an alternative date to repeat the exam on which attendance is required. You will be informed about an alternative date for repeating the exam during the semester, if this applies to you.
