Keep calm and study in English!

No German needed: Courses taught in English at the University of Konstanz

You  will find that individual departments offer a wide range of courses taught in English, and some in English/German concurrently. On the Master level, more courses are taught in English than on an undergraduate level, but in general, English courses are on the rise. And even in German taught courses, a lot of literature read is in English. Giving your presentation or writing a term paper in English is also always an option. The courses for the upcoming semester will only be available 2 months before it starts. Please consult the preceeding semesters to get an idea of what is offered throughout the different departments. Many courses are offered every term or academic year. You can browse by study programs or use the search function.

For your convenience, we have collected some English instructed courses within the different departments below. Please know that until the beginning of the semester, courses can still be changed and more courses be added. Some departments also offer special courses just for international students. Use our Incoming Student Guide to get first hand information on the different offers in every department.


How to find courses taught in English in the winter semester 2018/19

General course catalog (ZEuS)

Navigate to the electronic course catalog of the University of Konstanz. 

Now you have two options:
1. To list all courses offered in English separately, scroll down to "Courses taught in English". Here you will find all courses taught in English language sorted by the level of studies. Be aware that some courses may be taught in English only partially. To find out more about each course simply click on the course title. 
2. To list all courses, including those taught in German, by departments, click on your corresponding level of studies (usually "Bachelor/Master Programmes"). A list with all departments will open. You can now select each department individually and see which courses are offered. To find out more about each course simply click on the course title. 

Note that the second option will list you all available courses at the University of Konstanz. Please be aware that these coures are mostly not taught in English, but in German language. With a German level of at least B2 you should be able to follow academic courses in German.

International Office

The International Office offers some courses covering cultural and historic aspects of Germany and Europe. These courses can also be found in ZEuS. Scroll down to "Courses taught in English" and "Interdisciplinary Programmes".

Green Office - Virtual Academy of Sustainability (E-Learning)

E-Learning at the Virtual Academy of Sustainability
The Virtual Academy of Sustainability (VA) offers courses on sustainability, which are entirely online-based – including videos, all materials needed for the course and an online mock exam. After you successfully passed the electronic exam, you earn 1 to 3 credits as well as a certificate for participation. You can access all materials online any time. Moreover, we offer an obligatory tutorial for the English courses including organisational sessions and a content-related tutorial for the course “Sustainability Marketing”. Registration is possible for students of all study programs. No prior knowledge is required.

Winter Semester 2017/18

1. General Course Catalog ZEuS:

This option will list you all available courses at the University of Konstanz. Please be aware that these coures are mostly not taught in English, but in German language. With a German level of at least B2 you should be able to follow academic courses in German. Some departments list the option "Courses taught in English".

Navigate to the electronic course catalog of the University of Konstanz. First, select "Winter Semester 2017/18", then select your level of studies (BA/MA etc.) and whether it is your major or minor.  Then select the respective department by clicking on the listed departments.

2. International Office

The International Office offers some courses covering cultural and historic aspects of Germany and Europe. These coures can also be found in ZEuS. Scroll down to "International Office - Regional and additional interdisziplinary courses in English". 

3. Centre for Transferable Skills (SQ-Zentrum)
