Strong in research through interdisciplinary collaboration

Research in Konstanz is characterised by collaboration across departments and the performance-based allocation of resources. Close interdisciplinary collaboration is promoted by flat hierarchies, faculty structures without institutions and the layout of our campus that promotes daily contact between researchers from all disciplines.

International interconnection

We continually extend our international network and our collaboration with excellent, research-focused universities worldwide – for our researchers as well as for our students. Internationalisation has become an integral part here at the University of Konstanz.

Promoting and supporting our early career researchers

Our Code of Practice for Academics between Doctoral Studies and Professorship commits our programmes to offer junior researchers the best possible framework conditions to support their research and careers. The Konstanz Research School (KRS) is home to all forms of doctoral studies at the University of Konstanz. The KRS ensures that all doctoral researchers enjoy high standards for quality and supervision as well as equal access to relevant services – in any type of programme and for any prospective career path. Furthermore, our Zukunftskolleg is one of a kind. The freedom and independence that this interdisciplinary environment provides our “fellows” is exemplary.

Attractive and reliable career paths

Our university strives for excellence in all our research, teaching and transfer activities, and we aim to provide outstanding conditions for top researchers at our university. One important aspect involves the structural framework conditions for academic careers. Our concept "Attractive and reliable career paths for excellent researchers" lays the groundwork for lasting change in academic culture. The instruments described in the concept provide the opportunity to create reliable department-specific framework conditions for doctoral researchers, early career decisions as well as attractive and reliable career prospects after the postdoc phase.
