Alice Munro: Canadian Nobel laureate and master of the short story
Professional literary circles were delighted to learn that the Canadian writer Alice Munro had been awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. No one was truly surprised, however, since Munro had been poised to receive a nomination for this highest of accolades for years. Munro, whose work includes more than 150 short stories, has turned the writing of short stories into an art, expanding the boundaries of the genre for her purposes.
