Opening doors to higher education
We are developing a four-component programme "studying during asylum". The aim is to offer refugees that are interested in university study access to institutions of higher education and study conditions tailored to their needs. The programme will include, for example: language classes, advice on financing and accommodation as well as advice and support while studying. Currently, we are coordinating the concept with the University of Applied Sciences Konstanz (HTWG), institutions in Baden-Württemberg, the city of Konstanz, the Student Service Seezeit as well as with the IHK (Chamber of Industry and Commerce) and the Handwerkskammer (Chamber of Crafts).
What we currently offer:
- Our Office for Equal Opportunity and Family Affairs, our International Office and the Central Student Advisory Service provide advice and information for refugees that are interested in university study.
- Guest studies, for free (since winter semester 2014/2015), so the prospective students can orientate themselves and prepare for studying.
- We quickly process the applications for admission of refugees who cannot present sufficient documentation of their prior education.
- In buddy programmes
, students from the corresponding department mentor refugees and provide them with first-hand information about university study.
Centre for Key Competencies:
Our Centre for Key Competencies uses its teaching expertise to prepare students to work with and for refugees, as well as to promote participation in the current public discourse on migration. The Centre offers projects linked to seminars which focus on encouraging and directing the students and university staff who are taking on social responsibility.
The projects of the Centre for Key Competencies include: educational mentorships, tandem programmes with children and teenagers, collaboration projects with schools, support for staff in the refugee accommodations, conceptual projects for the integration work of the district office and the city of Konstanz.
