University of Konstanz receives 1.9 million euros for study and teaching

Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg approves funding for five University of Konstanz projects from the fund “Erfolgreich Studieren”

The University of Konstanz will receive funding from the “Erfolgreich Studieren in Baden-Württemberg“ fund (FESt-BW) for five projects that will increase both students' success and their curiosity in research and practical work. The successful applications in the funding categories “start of studies”, “teaching and learning labs”, “suitability and selection” as well as “arriving and studying successfully” in part tie in with existing measures. The aim is that as many students as possible, irrespective of their social or cultural background, subject and phase of studies, will benefit from the measures. The Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts (MWK) Baden-Württemberg is providing a total of around two million euros for the next two years.

“It is a huge success that the University of Konstanz’s five projects will receive the entire sum we requested in our application. These funds will make it possible to promote the individual development of our students and make the best possible use of diversity”, says Professor Kerstin Krieglstein, Rector of the University of Konstanz, excitedly. One part of the funds will be used to continue and further develop existing measures that help students to acquire the necessary competencies when starting their studies. Another portion will be used to extend transfer-oriented teaching methods that will enhance the exchange between science, industry and society. The programme will be complemented by cross-university and state-wide networking and communication, led by a group consisting of the University of Konstanz, HTWG Konstanz, University of Tübingen and Hochschule Esslingen. New projects aim at facilitating the start of studies as well as advising and integrating international students.

The Ministry of Science supports the universities in Baden-Württemberg with a total amount of 100 million euros, which are allocated from 2016 to 2020. The aim is to create ideal conditions for academic thinking, strengthen the awareness for social responsibility and promote the career skills of students through innovative, quality-oriented and evaluated formats. The University of Konstanz was also successful in the 2016-2018 funding phase in all three available funding categories.
