Rector appointed

Katharina Holzinger is officially the rector of the University of Konstanz

Wednesday, 24 February 2021, Professor Katharina Holzinger was formally appointed rector of the University of Konstanz. This means that, after being elected to the position on 9 Decemer 2020, the political scientist is now officially rector of the University of Konstanz. Theresia Bauer, Minister of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg, said of the new rector: “I am especially happy to officially appoint Professor Katharina Holzinger as rector of the University of Konstanz. Her experiences as vice dean of the Faculty of Politics, Law and Economics and as Vice Rector for International Affairs and Equal Opportunities are excellent pre-requisites for implementing her vision of advancing the international visibility of the University of Konstanz. I wish her all the best for getting started and having a successful tenure as rector.”

Katharina Holzinger was elected to the position during a joint meeting of the University of Konstanz’s Senate and University Council on 9 December 2020. Her term of office will be six years. Katharina Holzinger has been professor of international politics in the university’s Department of Politics and Public Administration since 2007. She stated that her work as rector of the university would focus on upholding its status as a University of Excellence, promoting the further internationalization of research and teaching, advancing the university’s pursuit of climate neutrality and promoting the sustainable development of future generations of researchers. Right after being elected, she stated: “It is the highest honour in my career to take on this position.”
