Carl Zeiss Foundation – Funding line "Wildcard" 2024

Funding of personnel, material, and instrumentation costs for teams of three researchers pursuing "wild" research ideas in the STEM fields Deadlines: 04 March 2024 (pre-proposal, internal) / 06 May 2024 (full proposal)

With its funding programme "Wildcard", the Carl Zeiss Foundation awards funds of up to 750,000 Euros for two years for unconventional research projects in the STEM fields from Baden-Wuerttemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Thuringia with a high potential for innovation. New: 20 % overhead will be granted based on the funding sum per year.

The funding programme is designed to enable interdisciplinary teams of three scientists to pursue radically new and particularly risky research ideas at the interface of different STEM disciplines, which (currently) might have little chances of getting funded within established grant schemes. Individual preliminary scientific work is therefore not required.

Researchers who have completed their PhD are eligible to apply. Funds are provided for personnel and material costs as well as instrumentation. Hence, e.g., funds for (post)doctoral positions, networking activities as well as measures for public engagement are eligible. Grant proposals that address an interdisciplinary issue from the natural sciences, life sciences and/or engineering sciences (STEM disciplines) can be funded. Please refer to the call for proposals for the specific funding requirements.

The deadline for the full proposal is 06 May 2024. Since the University of Konstanz may only submit two proposals as consortium leader, there will be an internal pre-selection by the university management. The one-page pre-proposal for the internal pre-selection was due on 04 March 2024. The proposal can be submitted in German or English.
